1/6 scale late war German tanker bust

I started this project, because I was asked to do a workshop on my way to paint figures with oils. Thus I thought it would be helpful to have some figure parts big enough to allow the audience to see what I was doing.

Therefore I did a bust with "Magig Sculp", which I later on used for the try to push the level of detail to a limit.

It was for sure one of the most striking experiences for German late war tankers that their weapons lost their decisive fighting capacity due to the enemies air superiority. That is why I wanted to show my figure looking up to the enemy ruled sky with an anxious expression. In addition to the challenging aspect to create the impression of anxiety I wanted to do so with a young looking face, which even complicates to show "character".

This proved a rather challenging project. At first because near to every single detail had to be built from scratch. In addition I had to spend more time than usual on research to keep up with the level of detail, which I felt to be necessary in this extremely large scale.

A detailed description is featured in "Art of Modelling", Nr. 7/ May-June 2011 and in the Italian "Model Time", issue 179/June 2011; also in "Military In Scale", issue 07/July 2011.
