A Vignette in 1/35 Scale Showing a SS-tanker of the Division "Das Reich" Leaning Against the Turret of a blown up Soviet Lend/Lease-Sherman
The title of this little project is taken from the song "SS marschiert im Feindesland" (SS is marching through the enemies country). I was fascinated by this vague but obvious awareness to fight in favour of the devil.
The aggressive policy of Nazi-Germany provoked a by far superior alliance of opponents. At least ever since the USA had joined the war in late 1941 there was not even the slightest chance for Germany to win the war. But German troops could still cause endless harm and millions of victims. The SS was very much the focussing point of taking this tragic chance until the end of war.
And this is what my little scene is meant to stand for: A SS-man laughing about his short-term but nonetheless deadly "success" against an in the long turn superior alliance of enemies, which is represented by the "lend/lease" Sherman turret.
Thus the fact that I have chosen a SS-man as the subject for this project is definetely not meant to glorify this organisation but to show its devilish character and role in history of WW II.
A first article on this project is featured in the Italian "Model Time" magazine, issue 185, December 2011.
