Pz.Kpfw. VI »Tiger«, Ausf. E
When the »Tiger I« first appeared on the battlefields of WW II in 1942/1943, it was in some ways the best battle tank in the world. With its armour of up to 100 mm thickness and its precise 8,8 cm KwK/L56 main gun it could destroy all enemy tanks from a distance from which these were hardly dangerous to it, and this feature made the »Tiger« legendary not only within the German army.
In spite of all that, the »Tiger« was not as invulnerable as its designers had intended. Among its most dangerous adversaries were enemy mines, which could cause so much damage to its roadwheels that the tank became immobile. Since from on 1943 the Germans were mostly retreating, this often meant a total loss. Being fascinated by the contrast that such a highly developed war machine could be knocked out by a weapon costing only a few Dollars/Pounds/Rubels, I shaped the idea of my diorama »Mine Damage«.
