| "License to get killed" – Wittmanns "007" |
Hstf. M. Wittmann, commander of the schw. SS-PzAbt. 101, LSAH, St. Sylvain, Aug. 1944
Michael Wittmann was the most successful German tank commander of WW II. This kind of superlative maybe highly problematic. But it is for sure true if "success" means achiving eternal life in numerous representations in resin and plastic.
Without declaring Wittmann as a "heroe" I have been fascinated for quite a while from a project which has been picked up from such a number of modellers before.

Here you will find more images of this project.
Soon I had to recover that it is no really advantage so many other modellers having worked on the same subject. Even though the "legend" Wittmann has been cooked up again and again the hard facts containing the vehicles he commanded are quite rare. In particular there is only one single image existing showing the real Tiger "007" after an explosion caused by its knock out. This photo was taken by Serge Varin in March 1945.
Thus I intend one further interpretation of the legendary "007" rather than the "historical trueth".
An article has been published in the German "Kit Militär-Modell Journal" (Kit Military-Model Journal) 6/2007. It is reprinted in the Italian "Steel Art" Magazine, Issue 50, February 2008. Another article has been featured in the "Tamiya Model Magazine International", Issue 148, February 2008. An article on this model has also been featured in vol. 100/February 2008 of the Japanese "Armour Modelling" magazine.
An article dealing especially with building and painting of the figure is featured in "Model Military International", issue 22, February 2008. It was also translated for the German edition "Modell Militär International", Issue 1, December 2008.
